    Costa Rica Surfing

Costa Rica, a small country located in Central America, has both Pacific and Caribbean Coast. Both coasts have something to offer to the wild surfer that want to visit Costa Rica and have a wonderfull beach adventure. Some of the world surf championships take place in Costa Rica. One of the main reasons are its warm waters and beautiful beaches.

If you are planning to come to Costa Rica, you may want to read a little bit about the best surfing beaches in the country and the best time to enjoy your surf adventure. Costa Rica has only two seasons: summer months (mid December to April). The rainy season technically starts in May and lasts until the end of November.

Perfect surf gateaways in Costa Rica

The Northern Pacific Coast is generally the most popular surf destination from December to April. The main reason for this is the strong offshore winds combine with ideal swell directions to put breaks like Witches Rock, Playa Negra and Playa Grande in perfect form.

The Central and Southern Pacific Coasts are generally visited between the month of May to November as the south swell season creeps in while the Caribbean Coast tends to pick up. Althoug these are only generalizations, you may take them into consideration when planning your surfing trip.

Some of the best and most popular beaches in Costa Rica for surfers are:

    • Hermosa / Jaco Beach (Puntarenas)
    • Mal Pais and Santa Teresa Beach (Puntarenas)
    • Tamarindo Beach (Guanacaste)
    • Cocles Beach (Limon)
